Boys will be boys

After a pitstop in Raton, we head north to Trinidad through the mountains. "They look like boobs," is Mitchell's astute observation.

The blackened trees covering the mountainsides make us think that there must have been wildfires here. After snaking through the mountains, we reach the top of a mountain pass and enter "Colorful Colorado," according to the welcome sign. Passing through the quaint mountain town of Trinidad, we start seeing billboards for all the tourist traps we will frequent in Colorado Springs. The kids are getting excited. The temperature rises again, as we descend in elevation.

"Boobs! Boobs!" cries a voice from the back seat.

We continue our trek north on I-25 with the mountains to our right for another hour or so, stopping to refuel our bodies and car in Pueblo. We attempt to partake of the local specialty called a Slopper, a hamburger patty covered in green chile sauce and topped with French fries, but are disappointed to find the place (Gray's Coors Tavern featured in a food challenge on the Travel Channel) closed for construction until Thursday. At the recommendation of the owner, we eat at Cactus Flower restaurant. Meh. We have had much better Tex-Mex in Houston. We should have gone to the rival bar in the challenge, The Sunset, which the owner also begrudgingly suggested. Oh well.

The temperature is 98 degrees. Sigh. Hoping that it will drop as our elevation increases in Colorado Springs.

Miranda's DS runs out of power. Thank God we only have 20 minutes to go.
